TODAY'S WORD FOR Friday, April 12, 2019:

STORMS

DefinitionDEFINITION:

A disturbance of normal conditions; a tumultuous condition; a highly distressing agitation of mind or feeling.

ScriptureSCRIPTURE:

He calms the storm, so that its waves are still.
Psalm 107:29.

For You have been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat; for the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.
Isaiah 25:4.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCEKNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

We all experience storms in our lives. Those occasions that bring pain, suffering and loss. In those turbulent times all sorts of questions flash through our minds: Why has this happened? Was it something I did? Did God cause it? The only safe place for us to go for answers in times like these is God’s Word.

There are three kinds of storms that one may face at any time:

There are natural storms like hurricanes, floods and fires.

There are emotional storms like poor health, financial struggles, relationship difficulties, and loss of a loved one.

And finally, there are spiritual storms. Choosing our own way in situations and disobeying God results in spiritual turbulence as the Holy Spirit convicts us. Being outside of God’s will change our conduct, conversation, and character making us at odds with what the Lord wants us to be.

There are three sources of our storms in life. We, OURSELVES can bring trouble upon ourselves with willful disobedience to what we know what God wants from us. We then become fearful and anxious and feel distant from God. We blame others, become useless for God and ruin our testimony. A storm is what it may take to bring us back to a right relationship with God.

The second source is the DEVIL. Satan can create a storm through temptations that we fall for. When we take ourselves to the wrong place at the wrong time with wrong thoughts, we are putting ourselves in Satan’s hands.

And finally, God sometimes brings storms into our lives for His divine purpose. They may be painful but God is motivated by His love for us and has something good to come out of it for us.

There are so many reasons that God allows storms in our lives. He can use storms to get our attention to protect us from destroying ourselves or others with our disobedience. God allows storms in our lives to bring us to repentance.

God uses storms to conform us to His image; to equip us for service; to demonstrate His power in our lives; to reveal Himself to us; to demonstrate His love to us; and to remind us who is in control.

How do you respond to the storms you face in your life? How does it make you feel if you truly believe that God is in control of all you do? Has the Lord taught you anything when you went through a storm in the past?

When you face the next storm in your life turn it over to the Lord and ask Him to show you what it is He wants you to learn from it. Start by communicating to Him through prayer and the reading of His Word. Let God take over and watch what He does for you. God never lets those who belong to Him go through a storm alone. He goes through it with you.
