TODAY'S WORD FOR Friday, March 15, 2019:

WORRY

DefinitionDEFINITION:

To feel uneasy or anxious; suffering from disturbing thoughts; to torment oneself.

ScriptureSCRIPTURE:

Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.
John 14:27.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCEKNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

We recently heard a minister say: A thief is running loose in our midst and he is a dangerous thief. The minister went on to say that he was stealing the things that are the most important to us -- our joy, our energy and our peace of mind. He went on and asked what the name of this thief was -- WORRY!

The English word worry comes from a German word that means to strangle. That is what worry does to many of us. When you worry it strangles out your physical, spiritual and emotional energy. Someone once said, Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow but it does empty today of its strength. A recent poll among doctors and hospital personnel suggests that over 80% of those in a hospital are there because they have worried themselves there.

When Jesus told about the parable of the sower in Luke 8: 11-15, He said that everyone who hears His Word are represented in one of the four different types of soil. Each one demonstrated one of the four conditions of the heart in response to hearing the gospel. Jesus described one kind of soil as the heart that received the good news of the gospel but was choked out by worry. He said in Luke 8: 14 --- That is like the people who hear God’s teaching, but they let the worries, riches and pleasures of this life stop them from growing. So, they never produce a crop (ERV Version).

Jesus never meant for us to worry ourselves to death. In fact, one of the lasting legacies that Jesus left us was the gift of peace. In John 14:27, Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do, I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled (with worry or anxiety), nor let it be fearful.”

Are you experiencing God’s gift of peace? Peace is the assurance that God is in control in spite of what is happening around you. You can experience God’s peace when you turn your worries in to prayers and trust in our faithful God. Great is His faithfulness.

LEARNINGLEARNING:

Our memory verse for this week is found in Proverbs 22:9.

He who has a generous eye will be blessed, for he gives of his bread to the poor.

PRAYERPRAYER:

I come to You today casting all my worries and heavy burdens on You because I know You care for me. Give me Your peace that my heart might not be troubled.
