TODAY'S WORD FOR Thursday, March 14, 2019:
Steady in allegiance or affection. Loyal, dependable; a constant companion; worthy of trust.
Therefore, know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments.
For the Word of the Lord is upright, and all His work is done in faithfulness.
Your mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
Faithfulness is one of the most important qualities a person can have. What we most desire and look for in our relationships with others is faithfulness. Someone who is faithful is loyal and trustworthy. Someone who will stick by us through good times and bad times. Someone who will never let us down. We need to be able to believe what others say or promise and they must also be able to trust us. As Christians we must always strive to be faithful to God and to others.
In our culture today faithfulness is in short supply. The only faithfulness we can count on is God’s faithfulness. God never changes. “He is the same yesterday, today and forever” Hebrews 13:8.
The three scriptures we have put above affirms for us God’s faithfulness. Although our faithfulness wavers, these scriptures confirm that God is faithful all the time. His faithfulness is a certainty we can rest upon. In Hebrews 13:5 we read: “I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you.” This means we can have confidence that we are secure in Him.
God has promised to be faithful to us. He will always forgive us. Forgiveness is only possible because Jesus paid our sin debt in full with His death on the cross. I John 1:9 tells us that “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
God’s faithfulness limits the power of temptation over us. In I Corinthians 10:13 we read: “No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.” We can rely on this promise. We don’t have to yield to temptation. If we call on God, He will provide us the strength and the way to overcome it.
And finally, we can have the peace of God. Philippians 4:7 reads: “And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” If we bring our anxieties to the Lord in prayer, we can receive His peace even in the midst of trying situations. Peace comes because we know God is in control. Nothing is impossible with God.
Our memory verse for this week is found in Proverbs 22:9.
He who has a generous eye will be blessed, for he gives of his bread to the poor.
Thank You Lord for Your great faithfulness. Thank You that You never change. Thank You that You are faithful to forgive our sins. Help us overcome our temptations and give us peace in troubled times.
