TODAY'S WORD FOR Monday, July 08, 2019:
Cunning; deceitful; skillful in underhanded or devious ways; tricky.
The serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals God had made.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
Anyone who has seen a magician perform knows that they have great ability to deceive by making what is not true to appear to be true. They make it appear that they can make something disappear into thin air and then have it reappear again or that they can change one thing into another thing. They have the crafty ability to deceive us into thinking what appears to be true is not true and what is not true is true. We know a magician cannot really make things disappear or change something into another thing but they are able to make it appear like they did.
In the very beginning after God created Adam and Eve and put them in the Garden of Eden, Satan arrived on the scene. He is described in Genesis 3:1 as “more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made.”
Satan has many crafty ways to deceive. Satan is clever as to how he presents himself. In I Corinthians 11:14 we read that “Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.”
We are all aware of what happened in the Garden of Eden between Eve and the serpent (SATAN). Satan cleverly deceived Eve in thinking maybe she misunderstood God in what He said to her. He basically was asking how could it be that a good God would withhold something good from you?
Satan convinced Eve to doubt God and His goodness. Satan’s lie was that God was withholding something good from Eve by forbidding her to eat the fruit from this one tree.
In the life of every one of us as a believer there will be times that Satan will cleverly trick us into second guessing God. Opportunities will come your way that you are tempted to consider but you know it is something you should not do. When you say no, Satan puts a positive spin on whatever you were considering and makes it appear you are missing out on something and that it really won’t hurt you to try it. But most often it will be too late when your eyes are opened to the truth as you find yourself in the midst of suffering through the consequences of your sin.
We urge you to watch out because Satan, the Devil, is alive and well today in this world. He is looking for every opportunity to lead you to sin. He will make you think sin is good, desirable and pleasant. Beware! Satan is very crafty. He knows exactly where you are vulnerable and he will pounce on you if you just slightly open the door. In I Peter 5:8 we read that Satan is a hungry lion seeking someone to devour. Make sure it is not you. We must shut the door on Satan and invite the Lord to come into our life.
Our memory verse for this week is found in Philippians 4:13.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Give me wisdom today to watch out for the craftiness of Satan’s temptations to draw me away from doing what is right and obeying Your commandments in my life. Draw me closer to you as I read Your Word and communicate to You through prayer so that I will be able to resist all of Satan’s temptations. Help me to lead my family to live a Christ honoring life and to look out for the temptations of Satan that they will face.
