TODAY'S WORD FOR Thursday, May 16, 2019:

WAVERING FAITH

DefinitionDEFINITION:

Stepping out by faith but not having the ability to decide; a state of doubt; uncertainty

ScriptureSCRIPTURE:

But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
James 1:6

Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Hebrews 13:5

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCEKNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

How many times have you asked the Lord for something you needed? You read the scripture and it was clear that God will supply all your needs. It may have been a job, wisdom as to how to talk to your spouse or child, a health need or a financial need and nothing seems to happen.

Possibly you waited for a day or two and you feel that God has never answered. And then your faith began to waver. You have not taken into consideration that God has His perfect timing as to when He will respond. The real problem is that you do not understand what God is doing in your life.

James 1:2-3 tackles this issue of doubting by first addressing God’s purpose for our trials. He says, “Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.” Sometimes God does not give us the answer to what we want because He is using that particular trial to produce something good for us.

What causes our faith to waver?

First, we choose to rely on our feelings rather than on the Word of God. When our faith is grounded in the Word of God, we never will question what God says because we stand on His promises and truth.

Secondly, we yield to reason rather than believing God. Human reasoning (I know the answer) and faith are not always compatible. We may have all kinds of good reasons for making a particular request to God, but He sees more of the situation than we do. If the Lord delays, He has a reason that will be good, legitimate and helpful.

Thirdly, we fail to see God at work in our circumstances. He will use our circumstance to bring us to maturity. His purpose is to shape us into the image of His Son so He may not give us what we want.

Fourthly, we listen to negative counsel of other people and our request is not understood by them.

Fifthly, we are ignorant of God’s ways. When we understand more about God’s ways as revealed to us in His Word, we will become more patient when His answers are delayed.

You may ask how we correct our wavering faith!

Ask yourself, where are my doubts coming from? Am I living in sin?

Did God promise to meet your needs? Yes, but we need to distinguish between our needs and our wants.

God did promise to be with you all the time (Hebrews 13:5) His presence is a fact and does not depend on our feelings.

If your faith is wavering it may be because of your feelings, your circumstances, and uncertainty regarding God’s will for your life. Are you availing yourself of what God has promised you, through the Holy Spirit in His Word?

LEARNINGLEARNING:

Our memory verse for this week is found in Ephesians 4:32.

Be kind and compassionate to one another forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

PRAYERPRAYER:

When trials come into my life, keep my faith strong and enable me to persevere in times of testing. Thank You that You go with us through them and give us the strength to endure them and grow in our faith.
